How To Properly Clean a TomTom Screen Without Scratching It

The TomTom GPS sat nav requires the use of your fingers to navigate through the different system menus. Overtime, the TomTom touchscreen will become dirty, it will have greasy finger prints and smudges on it. This will not affect its performance in anyway, but when using your TomTom in direct sunlight, it can cause difficulty to see what the screen is actually displaying. Also if you are selling your TomTom, cleaning the screen will make it look in better condition and will increase the chances of it being sold onto the new owner. To clean your TomTom screen without scratching it, you will require a soft microfiber cloth. This type of cloth has special fibers that are really soft, unlike a regular tissue paper that has ruff fibers.

1) You will need to get hold of a bottle of rubbing alcohol. This is a special cleaning solution that contains no strong chemicals that works wonders when it comes to cleaning screens. You can purchase rubbing alcohol from any drug store.

2) Press the 'Power' button down for 3 seconds on your TomTom to turn it off. This is to prevent any electrical damage occurring when you are cleaning the device.

3) Unscrew the cap of the rubbing alcohol bottle, get your microfiber cloth and pour a sensible amount of liquid on it. Then screw the cap back onto the bottle.

4) Using the side rubbing alcohol is applied onto the cloth, gently wipe the TomTom screen upwards and downwards covering all areas. Remember not to wipe the screen clean using a circular motion because it will cause visible scratches to appear.

5) Once you have cleaned the TomTom screen, it would be ideal if you apply a peel on screen protector onto the actual screen. This is because the screen protector will protect the actual screen from getting scruffs and scratches from everyday use.
